Neal T. Wholey saved Lori D. Dunkerley from drowning, Rocky Hill, Connecticut, June 28, 1985. Lori, 13, was the passenger in a car that was submerging in the Connecticut River. Wholey, 19, college student, dived into the river and swam 35 feet to the car. With difficulty, he opened a rear door of the car and removed Lori, but his legs became caught by the door as it closed.
