Norman Durelle Bailey, 17, student, saved Arel Tougas, 49, carpenter, from drowning, Riverside, Rhode Island, July 4, 1919. Tougas got into a deep hole in Bullocks Cove about 20 feet from a railroad culvert and was in danger of being carried through the culvert by a swift current into a larger hole. Norman swam, fully dressed, 25 feet to Tougas and took hold of him from behind and swam with him about 25 feet to the bank, about half of the distance being against a strong eddy current. Tougas was unconscious but revived. 20145-1669
