Norman J. Masslieno saved W. George Logue from drowning, Panama City, Florida, August 12, 1939. At night during a storm Logue, 38, oil dealer, fell from a cruiser, the Agnes Anne, which was anchored 300 feet from shore in Watson Bayou. There was wind of about 65 m.p.h., and choppy waves were seven feet high. Almost fully clothed, Masslieno, 26, fisherman, dived from the Agnes Anne but soon removed his life jacket, which hampered his movements. Guided by occasional flashes of lightning, he swam 100 feet to the point he had seen Logue but then could not find him. Men on the Agnes Anne gave up Masslieno and Logue as having drowned. Masslieno dived and saw Logue, who was unconscious and under the water eight feet. He got hold of Logue, and brought him to the surface. He located the Agnes Anne, which had shifted position, and then swam towing Logue 110 feet to it. Men on board did not hear his calls for help. With effort he got hold of the stern, which was pitching; and then he and Logue were aided onto the boat. Masslieno was very tired. Logue was revived. 37971-3172
