O. Alexander Nunn died attempting to save Frank C. Smith from drowning, Great Falls, Montana, July 1, 1932. While bathing in the Missouri River, Smith, 20, floated into water 20 feet deep, went under the surface, rose, and threshed. After a youth swam to him and briefly tried to aid him, another youth, who was a good swimmer, reached Smith and towed him eight feet toward the bank. Smith then grasped the youth, and both were twice momentarily submerged. From wadable water, Alexander, 17, schoolboy, then swam three feet to Smith and took hold of him, and the youth got free and swam to wadable water. Smith grabbed Alexander around the neck, and they drifted 25 feet as they bobbed up and down and then sank together and were drowned.
