Ocie R. A. Blair, 16, schoolboy, died as the result of helping to save C. Cecil Norris, 11, from drowning, Dallas Texas, May 16, 1953. While bathing on a submerged road in the swift overflow waters of the Trinity River, Cecil got into water beyond his depth and repeatedly sank and rose 23 feet from the bank. His screams for help attracted Blair, who just had returned to the bank because of a leg cramp. Reentering the water, Blair swam to Cecil and took hold of him. Two other boys reached Blair after he had supported Cecil for approximately 30 seconds, and they relieved him of Cecil and swam pushing the latter to wadable water. Blair drifted rapidly downstream in a current of two m.p.h. to water eight feet deep, was submerged briefly several times, and then sank. He was brought to the surface by firemen an hour and a half later but could not be revived. Cecil recovered. 42866-3908
