Ollin V. Bennett, 24, salesman, died attempting to save J. Harlan Etheridge, 18, student, from drowning, Charleston, Illinois, June 13, 1916. Etheridge became distressed in the Embarras River, where the water was 10 feet deep, and seized a companion who was swimming with him, but the companion broke loose and swam away from him. Bennett swam 100 feet to Etheridge, but Etheridge grasped him, and they sank. They rose twice but then sank and were drowned. 17862-1334
