Orra E. Robison saved Gaylord W. and Cora K. Martin from burning, Shenandoah, Ohio, April 27, 1940. Mrs. Martin, 50, and her son Gaylord, 14, were in an automobile that collided with the rear of a gasoline tank-truck; and gasoline poured over the hood of the automobile and caught fire, flames rising 10 feet. Robison, 38, machinist, ran to the automobile, opened a door, and got his head inside. Heat was intense. Taking hold of Gaylord, Robison pulled him out. Again leaning through the opening, he got hold of Mrs. Martin and pulled; but she was held fast. Twice withdrawing his head briefly for air, Robison then reached in and with effort pulled her out. Five minutes later several cans of kerosene on the truck exploded. Mrs. Martin sustained serious injuries but recovered. Robison’s hands and face were burned, and he was disabled for four weeks. 38343-3175
