Oscar H. Thomas, 29, salesman, saved Alfred H. Smith, 7, from drowning, Milford, Connecticut, December 7, 1907. Thomas broke through the ice on Mill Pond while going to Alfred, who was in a hole 30 feet from shore where the water was 10 feet deep. Breaking three feet of ice that separated him from Alfred and going under water to get him, Thomas swam six feet with the boy to solid ice. 2110-323
