Oswald Paxton saved Lillie E., Jimmie A., and Elizabeth Anne Davis, respectively, from drowning, Elkhart, Texas, July 27, 1939. While wading in the Trinity River, Jimmie, 7, got beyond his depth and took hold of his sister Elizabeth, 10. Elizabeth lost her footing, and both drifted in a current of three m.p.h. to water seven feet deep. Mrs. Davis, 31, the children’s mother, swam to them, and they got hold of her. Mrs. Davis was submerged, and the three drifted 25 feet to a point 12 feet from the nearer bank. From the other bank Oswald, 15, schoolboy, who had seen only the children, swam 40 feet to them. He got hold of Mrs. Davis, who was unconscious, and raised her head above the surface. Jimmie released his mother and took hold of Oswald’s head. Oswald dipped under the surface, and Jimmie shifted his hold to his mother. From behind Mrs. Davis, Oswald with great effort swam pushing her and the children 10 feet to wadable water, his head being under the surface for half the distance. Mrs. Davis revived. 37906-3146
