Otho Jones Bellamy, 14, schoolboy, died attempting to save J. Robert Speer, 11, from drowning, Fort Worth, Texas, March 19, 1919. Robert, while playing at the bank of the West Fork of the Trinity River, slipped and fell into the river. He could not swim. Otho, who was dressed, ran 2,000 feet to the river, waded and swam 18 feet to Robert, grasped his arm, and swam eight feet toward the bank with him. Robert then grasped Otho’s hair, and they sank. They returned to the surface once and then sank and were drowned. 19466-1526
