Palmer L. Ferguson helped to rescue Della McDonald from burning, Jasper, Alberta, December 15, 1975. An explosion occurred and fire broke out in a building in which the basement apartment was occupied by Mrs. McDonald, 64, and her husband. The latter managed to get to a window and, after being aided out, reported that his wife was trapped inside. Ferguson, 44, utility company district agent, entered the apartment via the window opening. He located Mrs. McDonald, freed her, and took her to the window. With assistance from men outside, Ferguson got Mrs. McDonald through the opening. Shortly after they had emerged from the building, it began collapsing. Mrs. McDonald recovered from burns she had sustained.
