Pamela Anne Stewart saved Todd W. Nelson from drowning, Port Edward, British Columbia, March 24, 1974. While riding his bicycle on a dock at the Skeena River, Todd, 10, accidentally went over the edge and into the water, where the current moved him farther away. Pamela Anne, 17, was attracted and, after removing her shoes and coat, jumped into the cold water. She awam about 50 feet to Todd, who then was in deep water; and, with difficulty because of the current, towed him to a ladder at the side of the dock. By then Pamela Anne was too fatigued to get Todd onto the dock; but others aided in doing so.
