Pamela Sue Quick died after helping to save John E. Williams II and Mark A. Bassett from drowning, Panama City, Florida, July 7, 1985. John, 12, and Mark, 11, were playing in the Gulf of Mexico about 40 feet from the beach when they were carried into deeper water by a strong undertow. Alerted by their cries for help, Mrs. Quick, 37, concessions owner, grabbed a plastic buoy and swam 150 feet out to the boys. She gave them the buoy, enabling them, with the help of others, to kick to shore. Mrs. Quick called for help. She was found floating unconscious in the water and was taken to shore on a raft. She died six days later. 60542-6999
