Parker K. Wiemers saved Fred T. Dumas from being struck by an airplane, Marfa, Texas, December 22, 1984. Dumas, 82, lay on the pavement of an airport after being struck by a small, pilotless airplane, which was traveling out of control in circles. From an office nearby, Wiemers, 18, high school student, a part-time employee of the airport, saw Dumas lying in the path of the plane. He immediately ran to Dumas, reaching him between revolutions of the plane. He grabbed Dumas’s arm and dragged him out of the path of the plane seconds before the plane returned. Dumas required treatment for cuts.
