Patrick M. Pryor, Jr., saved Donna and Susan Wardle from being struck by a runaway vehicle, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, November 17, 1977. In drizzling rain, a runaway tractor-trailer veered toward a street corner where Donna, 11, and her sister, Susan, 8, were waiting for Pryor, 72, school crossing guard, to escort them across the intersection. As the vehicle headed toward the girls, Pryor stepped to their position and moved them out of the tractor-trailer’s path. Pryor then dived into the street to escape the oncoming vehicle, which overturned at the spot where the girls originally had been standing. 56124-6337
