Paul J. Zentner, 12, schoolboy, saved E. Donald Ryan, 12, schoolboy, from drowning, Oshkosh, Wisconsin, December 1, 1911. (See case of E. DONALD RYAN.) Paul, a poor swimmer, saw Donald fall into the water, and although he knew that there was thin ice at the scene, he skated to the hole from a place of safety. He knelt and seized one of Donald’s wrists with both hands and with a quick, strong pull drew Donald up on the ice. He then told Harland, who was clinging to the ice at the opposite side of the hole, to come within his reach. Harland attempted to do so, but he sank and was drowned. Paul and Donald left the ice in safety. 7857-846
