Paul K. Benedick, 14, schoolboy, died attempting to save W. Franklin Little, 9, from drowning, Hampton, Pennsylvania, June 26, 1919. While swinging out over Conewago Creek on a wire hung from a tree on the bank, Franklin lost his hold and fell into the creek 12 feet from the bank, where the water was five feet deep. Paul, who could not swim, waded from the bank to Franklin, took hold of his hand, and immediately became distressed. A girl, larger than Paul, waded to Franklin and assisted him to shallow water, but Paul was drowned. 19967-1572
