Pedro Fernandez Sanchez, 43, railroad track walker, saved Amelia Brown, 87, from being killed by a train, Tyler, Texas, November 24, 1937. Mrs. Brown walked between the rails of a track on which a freight-train was approaching at a speed of 10 miles an hour. Sanchez ran ahead of the train 70 feet to Mrs. Brown, reaching her face to face when the locomotive was not more than 30 feet from her. With one foot on a rail and the other foot between the rails, Sanchez took hold of Mrs. Brown’s arms and pushed her backward ahead of him from the track. As he was leaving the track, Sanchez with his knee pushed against a man who stood near the track. Sanchez was three feet from the track when the locomotive at unreduced speed reached the point he had left the track.
