Peter J. Bacso saved Lois E. Shelly from being killed by a train, Wadsworth, Ohio, February 5, 1915. Lois, 5, fell to her hands and knees between the rails of a track on which a passenger train was approaching. Bacso, 29, crossing watchman, who had but one arm, had crossed the track to prevent her from going on it, but she dodged under his arm at a point three feet north of the track. He wheeled around and ran to Lois, reaching her when the train was about 30 feet from her and approaching at a speed of more than 25 m.p.h. He grasped her skirts, continued running, and took her off the track, the locomotive barely missing him. 16399-1438
