Peter Rumohr, 53, farmhand, rescued Elmer H. Reimers, 39, farmer, from electric shock, Inwood, Iowa, October 19, 1949. While standing on a roadway, Reimers placed his arm against the trough of a portable grain elevator, the derrick of which was in contact with a high-tension wire carrying 6,900 volts. He was shocked and became unconscious but continued to stand. Smoke rose two feet from one shoe. Rumohr ran 10 feet to Reimers and, grasping him at the waist with both hands, wrenched him free of the elevator. Rumohr was shocked and stumbled into a ditch. Reimers, who sustained severe bums, was revived. Rumohr’s hands were burned but healed in two weeks. 3680-41840
