Phillip Eugene Cerenzia died attempting to save Shirley F. Kindle from drowning, Camden, Washington, June 25, 1944. While wading in a small lake, Shirley, 12, becamed submerged and paddled wildly. She grabbed Cerenzia’s young daughter and rendered her helpless 15 feet from the bank . Cerenzia, 40, truck driver, swam to Shirley and tried to take hold of her, but she grasped his arms. After a struggle, Cerenzia freed himself and both sank. Only Shirley arose, but she sank again, and both were drowned. 40373-3418
