Ralph B. Capwell, 42, die maker, died attempting to save Helen C. Haber, 53, from drowning, Campbellford, Ontario, July 7, 1927. Miss Haber fell from a pier of a bridge into the Trent River 190 feet from the bank. Capwell, who was heavily clothed, jumped from the pier into the water and swam several feet to her. He then swam 10 to 15 feet with her against a current and grasped a fishing rod that was extended to him by a man on the bridge. The rod became disjointed, and Capwell and Miss Haber were carried along by the current, Capwell retaining his hold of Miss Haber. In a short time they became separated. Miss Haber drifted a few feet farther and was rescued by men in a boat just as Capwell sank. He did not reappear. 28536-2367
