Ralph Douglas Ray saved Corey J. Davis from burning, Acworth, Georgia, September 20, 1991. Corey, 5, was inside his family’s mobile home when fire erupted in a bedroom and quickly filled the home with dense, black smoke. A neighbor, Ray, 27, was alerted; he went to the scene, where he learned that Corey was still inside. Ray entered the mobile home and, unable to see because of the smoke, groped his way along as he advanced the length of the home toward the burning bedroom. Near the bedroom door, he stumbled upon Corey, who was on the floor. He picked Corey up, then retraced his steps to the outside. Both Ray and Corey recovered from exposure to smoke.
