Ralph S. Pensyl, 43, carpenter, sustained fatal injuries attempting to save Clara M. Imler, 54, from burning, Cessna, Pennsylvania, February 25, 1924. Miss Imler was asleep in a room on the first floor of a log house, and when the house caught fire at night, she awoke and was bewildered. Pensyl, who had been asleep on the second floor, and others hurried out of the house, but Miss Imler remained inside. Pensyl ran back into the house and searched for Miss Imler. The smoke was dense, and the heat was intense. Failing to locate her near the foot of the stairs, where she was last seen, Pensyl went up the stairs. They were burning, and he broke through the steps once or twice and was seriously burned. He then got out of a window and jumped to the ground. He died a week later from the burns. Miss Imler was burned to death in the house. 25848-2101
