Raymond R. E. Piret, 18, clerk, died attempting to save Edward Adams, 17, office boy, from drowning, Brooklyn, New York, June 16, 1913. Piret, Edward, and two other boys were bathing in Jamaica Bay. When Piret and Edward were together about 10 feet from shore, Edward suddenly went beneath the surface in a hole where the water was over six feet deep. When Edward’s head appeared, Piret grabbed some part of Edward’s body but lost his hold almost immediately. When Edward again came up, Piret grabbed the upper part of his body, and Edward grabbed Piret with both arms and pulled him beneath the surface. One of the other boys then swam within a few feet of them prepared to render help, but neither came to the surface. Both were drowned. 11205-851
