Raymond William Cromar saved June R. Lambert from drowning, Salt Lake City, Utah, June 2, 1975. Mrs. Lambert, 60, lost consciousness while driving her sedan, which plunged into a creek and began sinking in water seven feet deep. Cromar, 27, diesel mechanic, entered the cold water and swam to the vehicle. Only the rear end of the sedan was above the surface when Cromar climbed onto the trunk and jumped on the back window until it broke. As Cromar fell feet first into the water inside the sedan, the vehicle sank completely. Cromar probed the muddy water and located Mrs. Lambert. He then removed her through the window opening and towed her diagonally across the current to the bank, where a man aided them out of the water. Mrs. Lambert recovered after being hospitalized.
