Rene J. Brodeur III saved Dorothy J. Hemenway from being struck by a motor vehicle, Worchester, Massachusetts, December 16, 1974. While walking up a sloping street slippery with snow, Mrs. Hemenway, 48, fell at the left side of a parked automobile just as a heavy van began sliding backward toward her. Rene, 17, high school student, was riding in the van and noted the situation. He jumped out, ran to Mrs. Hemenway, and grasped her by the wrist as the van’s right rear corner slid to contact with the left rear corner of the automobile. Although Mrs. Hemenway outweighed him, Rene quickly pulled her up the slope and around the front of the automobile, clearing it just as the van slid broadside against it.
