Richard M. O’Shea II saved a girl from being struck by a train, Villa Park, Illinois, November 5, 1990. Attempting to cross the tracks at a commuter rail station, a five-year-old girl stopped on the track on which a passenger train was approaching. Nearby on the platform, O’Shea, 31, stationary engineer, who was waiting for the train, saw that the girl was not moving from the track. The train bearing down on her, O’Shea immediately ran to her, grasped her by the waist, and pulled her from the track. They retreated to the platform as the front of the train passed.
