Richard W. Adcock rescued Maranda M. Martin from assault, McComb, Mississippi, March 1, 1994. While shopping in a department store, Maranda, 14, was seized by a man who then held her at gunpoint and threatened her. As she struggled against him, the assailant fired the gun twice. Another customer, Adcock, 37, sales representative, heard Maranda shout for help and responded to where the assault was taking place in an aisle between check-out counters. When the assailant’s back was turned to him, Adcock approached from behind a counter, took the assailant to the floor, and struggled with him. Freed, Maranda fled from the store. Others helped to subdue the assailant, and police arrived shortly and arrested him. Maranda and Adcock recovered from minor injury.
