Richard W. DaBell attempted to save Robert H. Deal from drowning, Moose, Wyoming, June 19, 1971. On a snow-covered mountain, Deal, 28, fell into a cavern where his lower body was wedged between rocks projecting above draining water that dropped from the cavern opening 20 feet above the bottom. Using an anchored rope, DaBell, 19, college student, descended in the falling water to the bottom of the cavern. Deal was lying face down in flowing water beyond the waterfall. He was inert. Experiencing numbness in his limbs, DaBell felt he was incapable of removing Deal and so returned to the surface. Another man entered the cavern and determined that Deal was dead. Deal’s body was removed by a rescue team. 53034-5973
