Richard W. Sullivan, 24, student, saved Evangeline M. Worthy, 25, from drowning, Surry, Maine, August 20, 1920. Miss Worthy suddenly became helpless while she was swimming in Contention Cove about 100 feet from shore, where the water was 25 feet deep. Sullivan, who was in very poor health and had been forbidden to swim because of a weak heart, jumped, fully clothed, from a boat which was 25 feet from Miss Worthy, after attempts to unloose the boat from its moorings had failed. He swam to Miss Worthy and took hold of her, but she flung one arm around his neck, and Sullivan purposely took her under the surface. They rose, and Sullivan, permitting her to retain her hold, swam about 75 feet to wadable water with her. Miss Worthy was then unconscious, and Sullivan was barely able to stand from weakness. 20829-1843
