Robert J. Seymour helped to rescue Laird D. Weiler from burning, Stoney Creek, Ontario, October 9, 1986. Following a highway accident, Weiler, 30, was trapped inside a station wagon, which was upside down. Fire erupted on the engine of the car and spread to its interior. Seymour, 31, automobile rental manager, drove upon the scene and, joined by another motorist, attempted to extinguish the flames, but they were not successful. Their attempts at removing Weiler were unsuccessful, as well. A police officer arrived, and the three men worked to free Weiler. As flames increased, they pulled him through the window of the passenger door and carried him to safety. Shortly, the car was engulfed in flames, and an explosion occurred. Weiler required extensive hospitalization for severe burns, from which he recovered, and other injuries.
