Robert K. Ullett saved Randolph P. Renaud from drowning, Ottawa, Ontario, August 28, 1973. When he tried to swim to an island in the Ottawa River, Randolph, 11, became caught in the current and called for help. Ullett, 28, laborer, ran to the river and entered the water fully clothed. He swam diagonally across the current to where Randolph had just gone under in deep water about 70 feet from the bank. Ullett drew Randolph to the surface and, after being submerged briefly twice by his struggles, began towing him toward the bank, again swimming diagonally across the current. A youth met them in a boat, in which Randolph was taken the rest of the way to the bank. 54001-6176
