Robert L. Troescher, 18, wireman, attempted to save Patrick Casey, 25, pipefitter, and William B. Jones, 30, foreman, from suffocation, Youngstown, Ohio, April 29, 1909. Troescher, with a rope about his waist, descended a ladder to the bottom of a gasometer pit, which was 10 feet deep and filled with carbon monoxide. He was tying a rope to Casey, who had been overcome in a rescue attempt of Jones, when he fell over unconscious. Troescher was drawn up, and he recovered. 3681-301
