Robert M. Follin rescued Lenelver P. Coleman from the path of a train, La Porte, Indiana, May 2, 1974. Lenelver, 23 months, wandered onto a railroad track and stood on the ties outside the rail as a freight train approached. Follin, 55, switchman, was on the platform at the front of the engine as the train began slowing due to emergency braking. Descending steps at the side of the platform, Follin stepped onto ballast alongside the track. After holding to the handrailing until the train slowed further, Follin then took several quick strides and, moving past the engine, reached Lenelver. He put one arm around Lenelver and turned away from the track with her. The passing engine was so close that the handrailing struck Lenelver, but she sustained only a minor head injury. 54002-6135
