Robert S. Tadlock died attempting to save Donna J. Heistand from drowning, Brubaker, Illinois, June 17, 1951. While swimming in a pond, Donna, 14, floundered in deep water 30 feet from the bank and was submerged briefly several times, swallowing water. Tadlock, 34, truck driver, who had a partly crippled right foot, alighted from a parked automobile and ran 15 feet to the bank. He lunged forward fully-clothed into the water and swam to where Donna bad sunk. She suddenly rose and grasped Tadlock tightly around the neck, pulling him deeper into the water. An uncle of Donna swam to them and pulled the girl from Tadlock. He swam pushing Donna to wadable water, and she was aided to the bank. Tadlock called once for help and then sank and was drowned. His body was recovered 45 minutes later. 42443-3761
