Robert W. Edgerly, 24, pipefitter, died atempting to save Howard J. Edwards, 22, clerk, from suffocation, Follansbee, West Virginia, January 11, 1921. Edwards was overcome by gas in a benzol tank room and lay unconscious on top of a tank. Edgerly entered the tank room and ascended a ladder leading to a platform four feet below Edwards. He got hold of Edwards and tried to pull him down. Edwards resisted his efforts, and Edgerly suddenly fell backwards, striking his head on the floor of the platform. He was taken out unconscious shortly after by other men but could not be revived. Edwards was removed from the tank room and soon regained consciousness. 21140-1680
