Robert W. Eicher died attempting to help save Ada M. Hugg from drowning, Long Bridge, Pennsylvania, August 11, 1917. Ada, 15, became distressed in Loyalhanna Creek 15 feet from the bank, where the water was 10 feet deep. Robert, 15, student, who had been told the place was dangerous, waded from the bank with his clothes on and swam toward her. A companion of Robert’s also entered the water, and he reached Ada, but Robert sank when he was about three feet from her. Robert rose, drifted several feet, sank again, and was drowned.
