Robert W. Young, 36, brakeman, saved Ray E. Benham, 9, from being run over by a train, Abilene, Kansas, April 20, 1909. Springing in front of a string of cars being pushed by an engine, to assist Ray, who had been knocked down, Young was struck by the coupler and thrown to the ground. Holding to Ray with one hand, he hooked the other arm over the forward axle of the car and was dragged 15 feet before the train was stopped. He was not injured.
