Roderick M. Cunningham, 10, schoolboy, saved Joseph W. Schwarze, 34, sexton, from drowning, Valkenburg, New York, July 30, 1930. Schwarze fell from a pier into water 10 feet deep in Conesus Lake and struggled frantically at a point six feet from the pier. Roderick, who weighed 100 pounds less than Schwarze, dived from the pier and swam two or three feet to him. He got behind Schwarze, grasped him at the back with one hand, and then with great effort swam with him 10 feet to wadable water.
