Roger J. Blair rescued a woman from assault, Pleasant Hill, California, January 6, 1994. While visiting her estranged husband in his home, a 44-year-old woman was stabbed repeatedly by the estranged husband. Blair, 26, sales representative, who lived across the street, was alerted to the situation by the couple’s children. Blair responded to the house and heard the assault taking place in the kitchen. He entered that room, where the assailant was straddling the woman and attempting to strangle her, the knife having been discarded to a nearby point on the floor. Blair approached the assailant and pulled him off the woman. The assailant fled the house. Blair tended to the woman’s wounds until police arrived shortly. The woman was hospitalized five days for treatment of her stab wounds.
