Roland M. Roberts, 25, stock-keeper, died attempting to save Wenonah R. Shields, 20, from drowning, Chatham, New Brunswick, August 27, 1924. Miss Shields swam in the Miramichi River to a point 55 feet from the bank and then tried to swim back but could not make progress against a strong current. Roberts, who had complained of feeling ill, swam 28 feet to her. He supported her momentarily and then sank. Miss Shields was rescued by a girl who swam to her. 26616-2297
