Rollo J. Bryan died attempting to save Helen L. Fischer from drowning, Rudy, Arkansas, July 13, 1935. While wading in Clear Creek, Helen, 15, began to thresh and call for help in water three feet deep 25 feet from the bank. She then drifted in the current to water 12 feet deep 30 feet from the bank. When her father waded and swam to her, she grasped him and impeded his efforts to aid her, both being twice momentarily submerged. Supporting her, her father then swam 10 feet toward the bank. While both bobbed up and down in the water, Bryan, 19, radio repairer, waded a step or two from the bank and then swam to them. He grasped Helen’s arm, and her father, who was winded, released her and swam to wadable water. Helen raised her arms, breaking Bryan’s hold, and clasped him around the neck. Both then sank and were drowned.
