Ronald Lee Dunsing, Jr., rescued Mel G. Hearn from assault, Eugene, Oregon, October 20, 1990. Late at night, Hearn, 18, struggled inside his home with an intruder, who stabbed him twice. Dunsing, 21, at work as a clerk in a neighborhood service station, was alerted to the assault and went to the scene. Although unarmed himself, Dunsing entered Hearn’s apartment and pulled the assailant off Hearn, causing the assailant to drop his knife. Dunsing held the assailant until police arrived and arrested him. Hearn was hospitalized for his injuries, which included a collapsed lung, and he recovered.
