Ronald R. Calderwood, Jr., helped to rescue Douglas W. Baragar from burning, Edmonton, Alberta, August 20, 1978. When his helicopter crashed in a field and caught fire, Baragar, 26, sustained injuries and lost consciousness. Calderwood, 23, heavy equipment operator, ran with his brother and another man to the wreckage, in which Baragar was suspended in an inverted position by his seat belt. Despite nearby flames, all three men reached into the cockpit and, with some difficulty removed Baragar. By the time Baragar had been carried to safety, the helicopter was totally afire. Baragar recovered from his injuries and burns.
