Rufus Colburn rescued Delwin D. Freeman and three others from burning, Homewood, Alabama, August 29, 1980. After flames appeared underneath the automobile which Delwin, 17, was driving, the vehicle struck a pole. Delwin and the three youths with him were rendered unconscious. Colburn, aged 43, landscaper, ran to the automobile, where the flames had spread to the interior, and removed Delwin. After getting two of the other youths out of the burning vehicle, Colburn had to climb partially into the rear-seat area to get the last one. Delwin died but the others recovered. 57393-6522
