Russell M. Williams, 16, student, saved Ray S. Coates, 16, student, and Herold H. Smith, 15, schoolboy, from drowning, Wellington, Ohio, June 13, 1910. Russell swam to Ray, who had gone under the water for the third time in Horr’s Pond, and, diving, brought him to the surface. He swam to shallow water with Ray and, while helping to revive him, heard Herold’s cries for help. Russell swam about 30 feet to Herold and told him to put his hand on his shoulder, but Herold threw his arms around Russell’s neck and wrapped his legs around Russell’s legs, both going under the water. While under water, Russell broke Herold’s hold with his legs and, upon coming to the surface, swam to shallow water with Herold’s arms around his neck. All recovered. 5261-470
