Russell R. Chambers, 32, clerk, saved Edwin F. Cline, 40, superintendent of a manufacturing concern, from drowning, Houghton Lake, Michigan, October 20, 1927. Cline and his son at night were in a rowboat propelled by a motor on Houghton Lake amid waves six feet high. The boat swamped, and Cline and his son turned it over and climbed upon it. They called for help. Men searched for them in launches but were unable to find them because their cries could not be heard above the noise of the motors which they feared to stop in the rough water. Chambers, who was warned of the danger of taking a rowboat out on the lake and who could find no one that would accompany him, rowed a mile and a half to Cline, and by maneuvering his boat carefully he pulled him into his boat. Chambers then rowed to the shore. Cline’s son had drowned before Chambers reached him. 28052-2381
