Sadie Esther Baskin saved William B. Deitz from being killed by a streetcar, Springfield, Massachusetts, September 12, 1923. William, 2, stood between the rails of a streetcar track on which a car was approaching at a speed of 20 m.p.h. Mrs. Baskin, 34, housewife, ran to the track and grasped William. Turning around to step off the track, she guided William a foot or two from the rail. At that moment, William was grabbed by a man who stood on the front end of the running board of the car. As Mrs. Baskin was about to step in the clear, she was knocked down and thrown west of the track. William was not injured. Mrs. Baskin sustained a compound fracture of the leg and was disabled for five months. 26263-2210
