Salvatore Migliaccio, 38, crossing watchman, rescued Michael Grexa, Jr., 2, from a runaway, Corry, Pennsylvania, April 15, 1932. Michael was alone in a wagon that was drawn by a team of horses when the team began to run wildly. Migliaccio was standing on the street eight feet from a railroad track on which a freight train was traveling. He became aware of the team when it was 15 feet from him and saw Michael in the wagon. Waving a flag, he walked five feet toward the team, struck at one horse, and grasped the rein at its head. The team swerved toward the curb, and the tongue of the wagon dropped to the roadway and swept Migliaccio off his feet. Migliaccio fell on the roadway and lay with his head but two feet from the wheels of the train, the wagon tongue on his legs. The horses stopped but were nervous, and they were grasped by others. Migliaccio was nervous and sustained severe bruises on his legs and was disabled for a day. Michael was not injured. 32699-2758
